RAGBRAI®, which stands for The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, is an annual seven-day bicycle ride across the state. Sponsored by the Des Moines Register, RAGBRAI is the longest, largest and oldest touring bicycle ride in the world.
Headed into its 37th year, in July of 2009, The Register launched a mobile component that included several cool features for both event bikers and bystanders to enjoy.
With 10,000 riders cruising across the state (with their phones in tow), m.ragbrai.com was their source for important announcements, info on overnight towns, and route maps.
The site also includes a dynamic photo gallery. Bikers and bystanders were able to take photos during the event with their phones. They then sent the photos from their phones to the DesMoines Register where they were put into an RSS feed which fed them back to the mobile site.
